10am Monday 29th May
****
44 mile gravel bike ride in the New Forest National Park.
****
All welcome!
****
Will include free Cake Stop.
The plan is to meet 9.30am at Cyclexperience New Forest Cycle Hire, Brockenhurst station, for a 10am start and then head east and north towards Lyndhurst, following the route outlined below. Parking is available at Brockenhurst station for £3 a day.
Please use the online map (scroll down) to explore the route. TCX and GPX files will be made available too.
Cross, gravel, mountain, single speed & road (with min 28mm tyres) bikes should be fine for tackling the route. HOWEVER, we strongly recommend fitting tyres that are up to the job! Whilst punctures can happen, taking steps to minimise them by using suitable tyres or additional puncture protection is preferable. The route is a mix of road and gravel (roads being used to bridge the gravel paths) and the gravel is flinty…
The plan is to have a ‘cake stop’ at Hyde (around 23 mile mark). A selection of cakes etc will be available (for free), but it’s probably a good plan to bring your own food to keep you going as well.
It’s important to emphasise that this is a social ride with the aim of enjoying great parts of the New Forest in good company. The pace will be easy.
There is no support or ‘broom wagon’ so please ensure you have enough spares.
It would be helpful in terms of the cake stop to have an idea of numbers, so if you could complete the short form below, then we can do our best to bake enough cakes!
If you’ve got any questions or comments, please email or message on Twitter.
